Warrington Scores Twice in LC Field Hockey 4-1 Win Over Frostburg State

LC Box Score vs. Frostburg St.

FROSTBURG, MD - Sophomore attack Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) scored twice Sunday afternoon and extended her points streak to eight games, as the No. 9 Lynchburg Field Hockey team knocked off Frostburg State University 4-1 in non-conference play.

Erin Funkhouser had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over Frostburg State Sunday.                The Hornets (12-2) opened the contest's scoring 13:36 in the match thanks to an unassisted Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) goal. Warrington got the first of the day 2:23 later, thanks to help from Funkhouser.

Lynchburg entered the break with a 2-0 lead, and added to it three minutes out of halftime with another Warrington strike, this time coming on a penalty corner with assists from Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and Funkhouser. Frostburg State (6-7) got on the board with just under 18 minutes to play on a Chelsea Smith goal to cut the lead to 3-1, but Weir answered 22 seconds later with help from Deanna Smith (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) to put the game out of reach.

LC outshot the Bobcats 23-2, and held its host cornerless on the afternoon as Lynchburg picked up eight penalty opportunities. FSU goalkeeper Maggie Edwards made nine saves, and LC counterpart Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) stopped one shot in the winning effort.

The Hornets upped their winning straight to eight games, dating back to Sept. 19, and have also allowed only one goal in their last four outings. Lynchburg senior Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) failed to score in a game for the first time this season, marking only the 16th time in her 83 game career that has happened.

Lynchburg travels to Bridgewater College Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) battle.
