Hornet Volleyball Defeats Mountain State University in Straight Sets
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College volleyball team had no problems Friday night, as the Hornets got back into the win column with a 3-0 victory over Mountain State University in non-conference action from Turner Gym.
The Hornets (13-6) won the first game 25-19, and trailed 4-2 in the second game before coming back to win 25-15. Game three saw much of the same, as the Hornets took the deciding contest 25-19.
Lynchburg had a balanced evening on offense, as Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) led the squad with nine kills. Freshman Marion Lozano (Manassas, VA/Seton Hill) had a career-high nine kills, while Michelle Boucher (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) had a productive seven finishes for the hosts.
Newcomer Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) booked a team-high 16 assists, while senior libero Savannah Tinsley (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) registered 22 digs in the win. Freshman setter Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) also had an all-around good match, finishing with six assists, five digs and a service ace.
The win over Mountain State upped the Hornets home record to 7-1 on the season, and has also defeated the Lady Cougars six out of the last seven times.
Lynchburg will play host to the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College tomorrow afternoon in Turner Gym at 2 p.m. The volleyball team will also be celebrating the life of Rebecca Kearney, a former Lynchburg College student, who lost her life this past summer to a battle with leukemia.
