LC Box Score vs. VWC

LYNCHBURG, VA - The No. 9 Lynchburg College field hockey team won its seventh straight contest in convincing fashion Thursday afternoon, disposing of Virginia Wesleyan College 9-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Shellenberger Field.

Kristina Morris posted a goal in a 9-0 win over VWC Thursday.                The Hornets (11-2/5-0 ODAC) offense started early, scoring the opening goal at 5:53 of the match thanks to an Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) tally. Senior Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) found the cage less than a minute later, followed quickly by a Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) goal at 8:30.

Lynchburg continued the pressure on VWC (3-9/1-3 ODAC), scoring four more times before the halftime intermission with two coming from freshman attack Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, VA/Grafton). After the break, Funkhouser and Allie Weir each struck for their second goal apiece to cap the scoring for the contest.

The hosts outshot Virginia Wesleyan 63-4, while picking up 12 penalty corners to VWC's two. Marlins goalkeeper Chelsey Baker played well in net, making 31 saves in just under 63 minutes of play. LC keepers Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) combined for the shutout, making one save each.

Sophomore Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) added two assists for Lynchburg, extending her points streak to seven, while Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and Deanna Smith (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) both had first-half tallies.

The Hornets are back in action this Sunday as they travel north for a non-conference battle with the Bobcats of Frostburg State University at 2 p.m.
