Kristen MelchioriLYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Roanoke College 4-1 Wednesday evening behind two goals from freshman forward Kristen Melchiori (pictured left - Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) in an important Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tilt.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a Shelley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) tally from Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) in the opening 10 minutes. LC took a 1-0 lead into halftime and Melchiori added to the advantage four minutes after intermission from Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon). Melchiori scored her second goal off a corner kick at the 64:40 mark from Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) and Cecilia Moore (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson). Roanoke's Jessica Welfare cut the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick four minutes later, and Klippstein added an insurance goal from Ashley Hoath with 14 minutes left.

LC out-shot Roanoke 22-14 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) made six stops for Lynchburg, while Lindsay Kooiman made six stops for the Maroons (7-5/3-3 ODAC).

The Hornets travel to Washington & Lee University Saturday to do battle with the first-place Generals at 11 a.m.
