No. 9 Lynchburg College Knocks off Roanoke College 4-0 Tuesday

LC Box Score vs. Roanoke

SALEM, VA - The No. 9 Lynchburg College field hockey team, fresh off its new top-10 ranking as of Monday, responded with a 4-0 victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Roanoke College Tuesday night from Kerr Stadium.

Jordan Warrington had an assist Tuesday in a 4-0 win over RC.    The Hornets (10-2/4-0 ODAC) opened the scoring 6:41 into the contest, as junior midfielder Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) found the back of the cage unassisted. Lynchburg doubled its lead just over five minutes before halftime with an Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) tally with help from Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River).

LC kept the pressure on after the break, scoring 3:05 minutes into the second stanza thanks to an unassisted tally from the older Weir. The Hornets then closed the contest's scoring on a penalty stroke from freshman Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester), her second collegiate strike.

The Hornet defense was the story, as it allowed just two shots the entire evening. Senior netminder Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) played the entirety in goal, making two saves for her first complete game shutout of the season. Lynchburg outshot its hosts 41-2, picking up 13 penalty corners to Roanoke's three.

Sophomore keeper Christina Schicilone made 17 saves in net for Roanoke (2-8/2-2 ODAC), who fell to the Hornets for the 10th consecutive time dating back to 2003.

Lynchburg will host conference rival Virginia Wesleyan College Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
