Lynchburg Men's Soccer Upsets 20th Ranked Salisbury 2-1

BOX SCORE

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's soccer team made the most out of their opportunities to upset 20th ranked Salisbury University 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

Pat BrownLC was outshot 15-6 in the game but took advantage of its few scoring opportunities by converting two of those shots into goals. Lynchburg got on board early as Hunter Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) converted on a Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) feed, delivering the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal just 3:37 into the contest. Salisbury evened the score at 1-1 as Morgan Hunt scored off a Kyle Sterling pass in the 42nd minute.

Salisbury had several good scoring chances in the second-half, but Matt Sturdivant (Bear, DE/Caravel) and the Hornet defense turned them back every time. Lynchburg tallied the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play. A Salisbury foul near midfield allowed LC a restart. Tony Dulak (Dumfries, VA/Forest Park) kicked the ball from near midfield on the right sideline all the way to the left side of the box as Pat Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Christchurch) got in position to head the ball and sent it into the left side of the goal.

Sturdivant finished the game with four saves while SU (8-2-1) had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Lynchburg (9-1-1) travels to Emory & Henry College on Tuesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest at 6 p.m. in Emory, VA.
