Allie Weir Scores Twice as LC Field Hockey Defeats Wesley 4-1

            LYNCHBURG, VA - Senior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored twice Sunday as the Lynchburg College field hockey team handed visiting Wesley College (DE) its first defeat of the 2009 season, a 4-1 decision on Shellenberger Field.  

            Sophomore Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) scored off of her own rebound to give LC a quick 1-0 lead just 1:05 into play. The Wolverines answered back at the eight-minute mark as Jessica Franklin found the back of the cage from Nicole Hill off a penalty corner. The teams remained tied at one at intermission.

 Allie Weir           Allie Weir (pictured left) scored her first tally just two minutes after the break from Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) and added an unassisted tally at 44:17. Sister Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) got on the scoreboard late from Deanna Smith (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) to finish the scoring.

            Lynchburg out-shot Wesley 38-10 and held a 17-5 edge in penalty corners. Sarah Johnson made 14 stops for the Wolverines.

            The Hornets (8-2) host Sweet Briar College Saturday at 1 p.m. as a part of Homecoming weekend.
