Women's Soccer Rolls to 4-0 Win Over Guilford College

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's soccer team erupted for four second-half goals to earn a 4-0 victory over Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night.

The Quakers (2-6-0/1-2-0 ODAC) held the Hornets (4-1-2/2-0-0) scoreless in the first-half and just 11 shots. Lynchburg came out fired after intermission and took 24 shots en route to four second-half goals. Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) got the scoring going in the 76th minute as Lauren Hammond (Chattanooga, TN/Girls Prep) delivered a cross from the right side and Santos headed it into the back of the net. Jessica Gonzalez (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) pocketed her first goal of her career in the 77th minute as she received a pass from Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) and dribbled through the defense to fire a shot from 18 yards out. Sam Halbach (Tabernacle, NJ/Seneca) also produced her first career-goal as she put the ball past the goal keeper off a double assist from Kristen Melchiori (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) and Shawn Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd E. Kellam). Melchiori continued the trend of career-firsts, also tallying her first collegiate score, delivering a Cecilia Moore (Washington DC/Woodrow Wilson) pass into the far right post.

Lynchburg outshout Guilford 35-6 and held a commanding advantage in corner kicks at 10-0. Kat Adams played all 90 minutes in goal for the Quakers and recorded nine saves.

Lynchburg returns to the field on Sunday as they travel to Roanoke, VA, to take on Hollins University at 2 p.m.
