Men's Soccer Upends Bridgewater 3-2

BRIDGEWATER, VA - The Lynchburg College men's soccer team upended Bridgewater College 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest from Bridgewater, VA.

The Eagles were only able to manage four shots, but they made the most of their opportunities. Shane O'Donnell put Bridgewater (1-8/0-2 ODAC) on the board at the 35:35 mark off a double assist from Zach Cundiff and Ryan Tavernaris. Lynchburg's (6-1-1/2-0-1 ODAC) Shawn Bender (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) evened the score at 1-1 with eight minutes left in the first-half as he converted on a Kyle Symczak (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) feed. Jim Rochow (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) put LC into the lead just 1:25 into the second-half. The Cundiff to O'Donnell connection paid off again in the 73rd minute to tie the game at 2-2. However, the game-winning play occurred when Bridgewater was called for a foul in the box, leading to Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) tallying a penalty goal for the second straight contest.

The Hornets had commanding advantages in shots (17-4) and corner kicks (12-2). Lynchburg committed 13 fouls to nine for the Eagles while Bridgewater was also booked on three occasions.

Lynchburg returns to the field on Saturday as they host the Generals of Washington & Lee University at 7 p.m.
