Claytor Nature Study Center

The Claytor Nature Student Center has become one of the region's most comprehensive sites for the study of science and the environment.

"Boyd Claytor's monumental gift to Lynchburg College is an everlasting testament to selflessness and uncompromised commitment to conscientious financial and environmental stewardship. Boyd passed away in 2009, but not without realizing that, thanks to him, more than 1,000 students each year learn about and rejoice in nature at the Claytor Center. He can count all of them among his children. There is no greater gift to the world than a contribution to the consciousness of young people as they inherit the Earth."

--Greg Eaton, Director of the Claytor Nature Study Center

Ambitious plans are in place to achieve the College's vision of the Center as a nationally recognized environmental science education and research facility. A central component is the construction of an Eco-Village -- built using environmentally friendly materials and state-of-the-art, energy-saving technologies -- that will enhance extended immersion experiences for students and visitors. There is also a great need for improved information technology that will significantly strengthen the Center's education and research capabilities.
