HOBOKEN, N.J. - Stevens Institute of Technology Head Baseball Coach John Crane has hired Corey Paluga (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) as an assistant coach for the 2010 season. Paluga, who served as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater Lynchburg College, will work primarily with catchers and outfielders, while serving as the team's recruiting coordinator.
While at Lynchburg, Paluga worked defensively with catchers and outfielders. He also assisted the team's pitching coach with conditioning and bullpens. Paluga also organized and directed several camps and clinics, assisted with the scheduling and organizing of away trips, developed and instituted a mandatory study hall for student-athletes, and helped oversee the Hornets' recruiting efforts.
During his three seasons at Lynchburg, the Hornets compiled an 80-45 overall record with a 41-13 league ledger. Lynchburg earned three straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament berths during his tenure as graduate assistant coach, while capturing the conference championship in 2008 and 2009. The Hornets' record-setting 32-win squad in 2008 earned the program's first NCAA Regional Tournament bid since 1983 and was ranked as high as 13th in the nation.
"I am excited to have Corey join our staff. He comes from a great program at Lynchburg that he was instrumental in building both as a player and as an assistant coach over the past seven years," said Crane. "In addition to his extensive coaching experience and success as a recruiting coordinator, his passion for the game, and his ability to communicate and teach the fundamentals make him an ideal fit with our program."
Paluga, a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Hornets, graduated in 2006 with a degree in Mathematics. He earned his master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2009. After earning his master's, Paluga served as the Head Assistant Coach for the New Market Rebels of the Valley Baseball League in New Market, Va., working with both hitters and catchers.
