Hornet Volleyball Takes Two Five-Set Matches at EMU

    Savannah Tinsley       HARRISONBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College volleyball team remained unbeaten Saturday, as the Hornets defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College and Catholic University in five sets at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational.

          LC rallied to defeat NC Wesleyan 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10 in the day's first match. Savannah Tinsley (pictured left - Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) had 47 digs, while Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) paced the offense with 25 kills and added 11 digs. Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) contributed 24 assists and 11 digs, and Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock)  14 kills and 21 digs. Rebecca Loftis (Coventry, CT/Coventry) had 15 kills, while Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) and Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) had 11 and eight kills, respectively.

          Lynchburg held on to defeat Catholic 25-15, 27-25, 27-29, 24-26, 15-10 behind 15 kills, 22 digs, three aces and three blocks. Moughon and Turk had 25 and assists respectively, while Huffman and Loftis each had 11 kills and four blocks. Tinsley had 37 digs and Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) posted 23 digs, and Mallory Stewart (Collinsville, VA/Bassett) drilled 10 kills.

          Lynchburg (4-0) hosts a quad match Saturday, with action beginning at 11 a.m.
