#10 LC Women's Soccer Posts 2-1 Double Overtime Win Over #4 William Smith
BALTIMORE, MD - Junior forward Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) scored in double overtime to lift the 10th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over #4 William Smith on the first day of play at the Johns Hopkins University Invitational.
Kwiatkowski (pictured left) scored at 107:32, dribbling around the keeper to find the back of the net to end the contest between two nationally ranked teams. The Hornets scored first 30 minutes into play, as senior Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) connected with sophomore sister Beverly Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) on a crossing pass and a 1-0 advantage. BreLynn Nasypany knotted the score at one with a goal at 41:05, from Mary Jameson. The defenses took over - resulting in 66 minutes of scoreless soccer until Kwiatkowski's tally.
William Smith outshot LC 10-9, while each team was awarded four corner kicks. Junior Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) made five stops for Lynchburg, while Amanda Davis stopped three shots in net for the Herons (1-1).
The schedule gets no easier, as Lynchburg (2-0) faces host Johns Hopkins, ranked sixth in the nation, at 2:30 Sunday.
