Job Title: Marketing/Public Relations Intern
Department: Lynchburg Parks & Recreation
Reports To: Business Manager
Summary: Performs responsible work assisting Business Services in developing communication strategies to support the department's overall goals, objectives, image and identity, by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists with taking, selecting and organizing photos for department use
- Assists with proofreading and writing press materials (fact sheets, news releases, etc.)
- Maintains publication logs and ensures consistent distribution of communications materials to field
- Assists with development of internal communications materials
- Assists with developing marketing plans to promote upcoming activities and events
- Assists with Public Relations mailings
- Assists with developing department ads
- Clips press mentions of department from various publications
- Assists with miscellaneous special projects
- Maintains and fills kiosks (as needed)
- Assists with event set-up and breakdown (as needed)
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Must be in the process of obtaining a degree in marketing, English, or communications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: Ability to balance multiple responsibilities. Excellent written communication skills. Excellent verbal communication skills. Multi-task oriented with strong organizational skills. Creative thinker. Self-starter. Good computer skills.
Requirements: This one-semester internship requires a good attitude, good writing skills, organizational ability, and time management. At the end of the internship, the intern will fill out a written evaluation of the program, and the intern's supervisor will fill out a written evaluation of the intern's abilities and progress.
Time commitment: 12 hours per week (approximately) or a minimum of 120 hours per semester.
