Dear Potential Applicant,
LCEMS is an all student-run volunteer rescue squad on campus that is a state-certified Virginia BLS EMT organization. Each volunteer is on call a minimum of one 24-hour shift, one day per week as well as two weekends per semester. We respond to any medical or trauma emergency on campus during the school semester. There is always an EMT-B on call along with two or three other support members. This crew provides basic life support and first aid for the patient. While on call, the crew member must stay within three minutes of campus as well as free from any substances such as drugs or alcohol. We require no previous training but give basic initial and continuous training to all members. We also encourage CPR and EMT-B classes once a student has joined the squad.
