Two Hornet Hurlers Lead Summer League Team to National Title
LYNCHBURG, VA - Junior hurlers Bryan Breedlove (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) and Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoirs) led the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plains League to a summer league title recently, and will be named summer national champions Wednesday by the Perfect Game Baseball website.
Breedlove had a stellar summer season for the 46-9 Owls, as he posted an 8-1 record with a 2.57 earned run average. The Coastal Plains League is comprised of mostly Division-I standouts, and is widely regarded as the premier college summer baseball league in the nation. Breedlove was also named a mid-season all-star, as he held opposing hitters to a .205 batting average.
Thompson joined the Owls pitching staff mid-season, but was quick to contribute as he won his first start, while finishing with a 3-0 record. Thompson appeared in seven games, starting six times, posting a 4.93 ERA with one save. The team was also coached by Mike Ranson '03, who was a standout pitcher for the Hornets.
