A workshop focused on the challenges of aging will be held Thursday, August 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Bentley Commons, 1604 Graves Mill Road. The cost is $20.
The workshop will include simulations of sensory and physical conditions often experienced by older adults. Participants will learn how to identify and respond to physical and communication challenges and learn about state-of-the-art technologies that promote quality of life for older adults with vision and hearing challenges.
Speakers include: Dr. Verna Sellers, M.D., M.P.H., C.M.D., executive director of Centra's PACE; Margaret Bryant, outreach specialist, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Center; Jan VanHorn, rehabilitation teacher, Virginia Department for the Blind & Vision Impaired; and Denise Scruggs, M.A., M.S, A.D.C., C.D.P, director, Beard Center on Aging at Lynchburg College.
The workshop is sponsored by the Beard Center on Aging at Lynchburg College and the Intergenerational Coalition Committee of the Consortium on Aging and hosted by Bentley Commons.
Caregivers of older adults, certified nursing assistants, home health aides, companions, nurses, social workers, program coordinators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, marketing staff, and educators are encouraged to attend.
