For Immediate Release Owls Pitcher Breedlove Named Coastal Plain League Rawlings Co-Pitcher of the Week FOREST CITY, NC - Forest City Owls junior right-handed pitcher Bryan Breedlove(Lynchburg College) was named Coastal Plain League Rawlings Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday for week four of play (June 22nd-28th)after a stellar peformance on the mound against the Martinsville Mustangs. Breedlove(4-0) threw a complete game, four-hit shutout on June 23rd at Hooker Field in Martinsville to earn his fourth win of the season. Breedlove dominated the Mustangs to close the game, retiring the last 11 batters he faced. He walked one batter and struck out six to pick up a victory against his fourth different opponet of the season. He has not allowed a run in his last 16 1/3 innings on the mound after keeping Thomasville off the scoreboard for 7 1/3 innings in his previous start. Breedlove is tied for the second in the league with four wins and ranks second on the Owls pitching staff among starters with a 1.99 ERA in six appearances and four starts. He has only allowed 20 hits, seven earned runs, and five walks while striking out 30 batters in 31 2/3 innings on the season. Breedlove started the summer by retiring the first 21 batters he faced. He has allowed just four hits or less in five of six appearances on the mound. The 6-1, 185-pound junior from Suffolk, Va. had a solid year at Lynchburg before coming over to the Owls for the summer. He finished with a 3-3 record and a 2.60 ERA in 65 2/3 innings pitched. He started in 10 games and struck out 41 batters while also tossing a complete game. The Forest City Owls have won three pitching awards in the first four weeks. Spencer Patton(SIU Edwardsville) was recognized for week one and Heath Hembree(College of Charleston) was also selected for week two. Konstantine Diamaduros(Wofford) has been the lone hitter from the Owls chosen for a hitter of the week honor in week three. Martinsville sophomore right-hander Trent Rothlin(Mississippi) also received the award for week four. He started two games and allowed one run on eight hits with 15 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. |
