About 55 LC students will be studying abroad this summer in China, Turkey, Greece, South Korea, and St. Lucia.

China: The Business World of a Rising Economy

Seven students will join Dr. Dan Messerschmidt, professor of economics, on a trip to China where they will discover an emerging economy firsthand with visits to dynamic corporations in Beijing and Shanghai and excursions to the Great Wall and the Museum of the Terra-Cotta Army.

Turkey and Greece: The Literature, Art, and Architecture of the Ancient World

Dr. David Lipani, professor of English, and Dr. Delane Karalow, assistant professor of art, will take a group of 20 students on a journey back to antiquity by exploring the sites and ruins of the Mediterranean world with visits to cities such as Athens and Istanbul and the many beautiful islands that dot the region.

St. Lucia: Island Exploration through Service Learning

Dr. Sabita Manian, associate professor of international relations; Dr. David Richards, assistant professor of international relations; Jennifer Hutchinson, assistant professor of nursing; and Kathy Husted, assistant professor of human development and learning, will take 23 students to the Caribbean island of St. Lucia where they will interact with the local culture by participating in an international service learning experience. Each activity is targeted to the student's major program. Students also have the opportunity to explore this tropical island as they work jointly with St. Lucians during the service learning activity.

Korean Studies: Hannam University, South Korea

Dr. Susan Thompson, associate professor of human development and learning, will take a handful of students to LC's sister school, Hannam University. They will experience a new culture and way of life as classes focus on Korean language and culture while students explore Buddhist temples and taste Korean cuisine. Cultural activities include pottery-making, karaoke night, and a two-day excursion to Seoul, the South Korean capital. Students can earn transfer credit from Hannam University.
