Lynchburg College junior long distance standout Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) earned his second All-American honor for the weekend at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Marietta College.
Flynn earned his fourth All-American accolade of the year as he finished fifth in the 5,000-meter event with a time of 14:49.46. He also garnered All-American honors in the outdoor 10,000 meter event on Friday, coming in second. Earlier this year Flynn finished fifth in the indoor 5,000-meter event, and also earned All-American status in cross country last fall.
Senior jumper Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier)also took part in the triple jump event, finishing with a top jump of 46 feet, 10 1/4 inches, which placed him 13th overall. Lynchburg finished 24th as a team at the meet, compiling 12 points over the three-day event. Wisconsin-Oshkosh took home the national championship as a team, finishing with 46 points.
Under the coaching of Dr. Jack Toms, LC ends the 2009 season with its 23rd Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship, six National Championship meet competitors, and two All-American honorees.
