Ricky Flynn Takes Home All-American Honors at NCAA Championships Thursday
MARIETTA, OH - Junior distance standout Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) continued his record-setting season Thursday as he earned his third All-American honor of the 2008-09 academic year at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Marietta College.
Flynn had his best finish in a national meet Thursday, as he was the runner-up in the Championship's longest event, the 10,000 meter run. Flynn posted a time of 30:57.71, which was good enough to take home All-American honors. These accolades join the All-American awards he took home in this year's cross country and indoor meets. Flynn is also entered in Saturday's 5,000 meter event, where he ranked in the top five in the nation as well.
Lynchburg also performed in two other events on Thursday, as the 4x400 meter relay team and freshman pole vaulter James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) competed as well. The relay team, comprised of Rashard Adams (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass), Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) and Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) ran well but failed to qualify for Saturday's final.
The relay team ran a 3:16.13, which was fourth in heat two of the event. Bell competed in his second national meet, but did not clear a height in the pole vault event. Edwards will compete Saturday afternoon in the triple jump for LC as well.
The track and field action continues tomorrow in Marietta, though the Hornet competitors will not dawn the crimson and grey again until Saturday afternoon.
