A mathematician by training, an ex-NASA guy, a martial arts guru, and an educator for the past four decades, President Kenneth Garren is also an avid dance enthusiast. And at age 68, he still moves across the dance floor better than most people half his age.

He and wife, Sheila, have been dance partners for the past 50 years, love all kinds of dancing, and have won many dance contests over the years. They even choreographed their own LC creation, the "Hornet Hop," to the Will Smith song "Wild Wild West."

"When Sheila and I came to LC," Garren says, "I was asked to give a talk to the freshman class about school spirit. I decided I wanted to show spirit and not just talk about it, so we worked up the Hornet Hop."

Now wrapping up his eighth year at LC, Garren is going stronger than ever. The College has flourished under his leadership as he continues Going Above and Beyond in commitment to the success of Lynchburg College students. He shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon and is affectionately called LC's own energizer bunny.

"I've got the best job in the world," Garren says. "It's a privilege and joy to be around so many interesting, exciting and talented young people every day."

As you'll see, he's got the moves to keep up with the young people he enjoys. Check out the Garrens doing their very own LC Hornet Hop.
