Lynchburg Softball Falters In Opening NCAA Tournament Game
SALISBURY, MD - The Lynchburg College softball team, seeded #1 in the Salisbury regional, dropped a 2-1 decision to Bridgewater College to open NCAA Tournament play.
The Hornets scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning as Becky Schmidt committed a balk that allowed Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) to score. LC collected three hits in the first inning, but first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) pitcher Ashley Gills subbed in for Schmidt after just two outs and held the Hornets to just two hits in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Bridgewater (34-10) scored it's first run in the top of the sixth inning after two errors allowed Lauren Childress to even the score at one. In the top of the seventh, Kaitlyn Bowman delivered the game-winning RBI double to push Mallory Sandridge across the plate to provide the final 2-1 score
Lynchburg (37-7-1) is scheduled to play #5 seed Christopher Newport University on Friday at 3 p.m.
