Joe Devlin Honored As Co-Pitcher of the Year in ODAC Baseball Season-Ending Awards


Five Other Hornets Garner All-ODAC Accolades


    SALEM, VA - Senior pitcher Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) was named the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Co-Pitcher of the Year Wednesday, as announced by the league office and voted on by the ODAC head coaches. Four Hornets were honored on the second team All-ODAC, while one took home honorable mention honors.

    Devlin finished the 2009 season tied for second in the ODAC in wins with a 6-2 overall record.  He registered a 3.39 earned run average covering 58.1 innings of work, and kept the ball in play as he surrendered just one homerun all season.  Against ODAC opponents, he went a perfect 4-0 in four starts (five appearances) with a 2.45 ERA.  He allowed 35 hits and fanned 15 batters 33.0 innings pitched.  He went seven or more innings in each of his starts, and did not surrender a homer to any ODAC batters.

    LC was also honored with a conference-high four members on the All-ODAC second team, as infielder Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Heresford), pitcher Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoirs) and outfielders Jeff Taylor, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) were al honored.

    Watkins led the Hornets with a .410 batting average, while Thompson paced LC with seven wins on the campaign. Taylor batted .370 on the season to go with 27 stolen bases in 32 attempts, and Grant stole 18 bases and hit .362 on the year.

    Senior hurler Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) was named an honorable mention to the All-ODAC team after going 5-2 on the season. Washington & Lee's Terrence McKelvey was named the conference's Player and ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year while his coach, Jeff Stickley, was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year.
