
Eight Hornets Garner All-ODAC Softball Accolades
Barbie Miles Pitcher of the Year, Brittany Allsop Scholar Athlete of the Year
SALEM, VA - Senior Pitcher Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) was named the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the Year award.
Miles has gone 16-5 this season in 25 appearances. In 129 inning pitched, she has struck out 137 batters and opponents have hit just .253 against her this season. Miles ranks third in strikeouts and third in wins in the ODAC this season. In conference games, she had an 8-2 record along with a 0.91 ERA.
Allsop has been a great student-athlete on and off the field. In the classroom, she boasts a 3.99 GPA while majoring in math and minoring in business and was named an Academic All-American in 2008. On the field, Allsop currently sits in seventh place in the ODAC in batting average and leads the league in runs and walks. In ODAC games, she hits at a .404 clip with 19 runs and 10 stolen bases.
Joining Miles and Allsop on the first-team is freshman shortstop Taylor Walker and junior outfield Lauren Duguay. Walker batted at a .291 clip this spring and collected eight homeruns and 23 RBI along with 23 runs. In conference play, she registered a .333 batting average with two homeruns and 11 RBI. Lauren Duguay had her finest season this year as she batting .366 and hit six homers while driving in 29 runs. In ODAC play, she posted monster numbers, hitting .489 with five bombs and 22 RBI.
Katie Bruce, Tara Campbell, and Audra Della Rosa garnered second-team honors. Bruce hit batted. 320 this spring along with nine homeruns and a team-high 44 runs batted in. She also posted a 1.77 ERA with a 20-1 win loss record in the circle. Campbell led the team in batting average at .387 and also recorded nine homers and 40 RBI. Della Rosa batted .333 and also had 11 stolen bases and 18 sacrifice hits. Rachel Gallagher earned honorable mention honors after being named the ODAC Tournament MVP. Gallagher led the ODAC in homeruns with 11 and also tallied 33 RBI and 27 runs.
Randolph College, after registering its first ever winning season and trip to the ODAC Tournament, swept the remaining rewards. Lindsay Cross earned Player of the Year honors, Jen Steele was tabbed Coach of the Year, and Teresa Dalton took home the Rookie of the Year.
