W&L Outlasts LC Men's Lax 12-11 in ODAC Semis
LYNCHBURG, VA - Will Keigler scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left and the General defense held down the stretch as the third-seeded Washington & Lee University men's lacrosse team defeated #2 Lynchburg College 12-11 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament semi-final matchup.
The Hornets got an early 5-1 lead early in the second period, behind five different goal scorers. The Generals rallied with five-straight goals of their own, two by Drew Koeneman. Each team scored once before the break and W&L took a 7-6 lead into intermission. Each team netted two goals in the third period, and LC's Michael Mundorf (Cambridge, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) evened the score at nine all early in the period.
Seth Fishman gave W&L another brief one-goal lead before Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) answered back at 8:11. General Kevin Feeney found the back of the net at 6:32, but Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate School) knotted the game at 11 less than a minute later to set up Keigler's game-winning tally. The Generals were able to play keep-away with the ball until the final 45 seconds when a General turnover gave the Hornets an opportunity to force overtime, but LC was unable to generate a good scoring opportunity.
Mundorf scored three times for Lynchburg and had two assists. Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had two goals and Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) also added two goals. Dean Evans (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had a goal and an assist, while Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), Farrell and Sauer each had one score. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) recorded 15 stops in net.
Koeneman matched Mundorf with three goals and two assists for W&L (14-3). Feeney posted two goals and an assist and Keigler had two scores. Tim Skeen contributed a goal and an assist, while Connor Locke made 11 saves.
The Generals advance to the finals of the ODAC Tournament and will face top-seeded Roanoke College Sunday in Salem. The Hornets (11-5) await a possible at large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
