Kelly Gerland Reserve Champion at Riding Nationals

Freshman rider Kelly Gerland was a reserve champion at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Thursday, the highest finish LC has ever had.

Gerland was reserve champion in intermediate fences, coming in only two points behind winner Ali Cibon from the University of Kentucky.

A business major from Malvern, Pa., Gerland was also reserve champion at the Intercollegiate Zone Finals, a competition for the top nine riders in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia colleges.

Gerland also finished ninth in novice flat at the Zone Finals, held at the University of Mary Washington. Two other members of Lynchburg College's equestrian team, coached by Matt Arrigon, competed at that meet. Senior Sarah Ridgeway earned seventh place in advanced walk/trot/canter, and senior Caitlin Flathers took seventh in novice fences.
