#1 Seeded LC Softball Outslugs Randolph-Macon 9-4 in the ODAC Tournament

Rachel GallagherSALEM, VA - The #1 seeded Lynchburg College softball team opened the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a 9-4 win over Randolph-Macon Friday afternoon.

Lynchburg opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning with a grand slam off the bat of Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) that drove in Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View), Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law), and Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown).  The Yellow Jackets responded with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three run shot courtesy of Ashley Crouch.

The Hornets were not rattled, however, and came back with a decisive five-run performance in the bottom of the fourth. Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) led off with a single to center field and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Ashley Hohenberger (Wake Forest, NC/Longwood). Then Duguay notched a double to send James to home plate.  After an Allsop walk to put batters on first and second, Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) continued her recent hot streak with a left field single to score one more run. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Longwood) followed up with another left field single to drive home another run, and then Gallagher delivered yet again with a, RBI double to give Lynchburg its ninth run.

Gallagher finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI and two extra base hits, and Duguay was 3-for-3 with two runs and one run batted in.  Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw a complete game to earn her 15th win of the season while allowing just six hits and one earned run while striking out six. Crouch was the lone Randolph-Macon (15-16) player with a multi-hit performance as she went 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run scored.

Lynchburg (34-6-1) will face Roanoke College at 7 p.m. on Friday.  Roanoke College, the #4 seed, defeated fifth seeded Virginia Wesleyan College earlier in the day.
