No. 6 Seeded Washington & Lee Upsets Top-Seeded LC Baseball 4-1 Thursday

LC Box Score vs. W&L (ODAC Tournament)

LYNCHBURG, VA - Washington & Lee University posted two runs in both the seventh and ninth innings as the No. 6 seeded Generals upset Lynchburg College 4-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball Tournament held at Lynchburg's City Stadium Thursday.

The Hornets (25-13) scored the game's first run of the tournament as Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) scampered home on a passed ball to put LC up 1-0. Washington & Lee rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run single by CJ Thompson.

W&L (19-12) scored two insurance runs in the ninth inning, one coming on a wild pitch and the last run of the contest plated by a Terrence McKelvey double. Lynchburg managed only four hits on the afternoon, as Chuck Davidson and Brendan Clark proved to be too much for LC hitters.

Davidson chalked up his fifth win of the season after going seven innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run. Davidson struck out four and walked one before handing the ball over to Clark, who scattered a hit and fanned two Hornet batters over two innings in earning his third save of the year.

Bryan Breedlove (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) got the loss for Lynchburg, allowing two unearned runs and five hits over six and two-thirds innings. David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) was one-for-three with a double, while Bradley finished with a hit and run scored.

Lynchburg will now play at 11 a.m. Friday as it tries to climb through the rest of the tournament in the loser's bracket. Washington & Lee advances to Friday afternoon's 3 p.m. game.
