Va. Wesleyan Ends LC Women's Lax Season 13-9 in ODAC Tourney

             VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- Courtney Williams scored five times to lead four-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College to a 13-9 win over Lynchburg College Wednesday in the first-round of the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament. LC is eliminated with the loss, while VWC advances to play #1 Washington & Lee University this weekend in the semi-finals.

            The Marlins scored five of the game's first six goals, and led 6-3 at halftime. The Hornets rallied to cut the lead to just 9-8 with 10:56 left in the game after goals by Deana Welsch (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and Berry Morse (South Hamilton, MA/Brooks School). The Marlins closed the door with four-straight goals, from four different scorers, over the next five minutes.

            Morgan Logue (Barrington, IL/Barrington), and Katie Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) each had two goals and an assist for Lynchburg, and Welsch and Emily McMillan (Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Friends) scored twice apiece.

            Kasey Marchwicki had three tallies for Virginia Wesleyan (9-8), and Ashley Sippel made 11 saves.

            The Hornets end the 2009 campaign 9-8 overall.
