The Lynchburg College Wind Symphony will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the première of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story with a performance of Symphonic Dances from West Side Story Thursday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Sydnor Performance Hall, Elliot and Rosel Schewel Hall.
Dr. Oeida M. Hatcher, associate professor of music and director of music education and instrumental studies at Lynchburg College, will conduct the work, which will be presented in conjunction with a multi-media presentation.
The performance is part of a spring concert featuring the LC Orchestra and Woodwind Quintet, in addition to the Wind Symphony, which will also perform Appalachian Morning, Opus 127, by Robert Sheldon, conducted by graduate student Michelle Farley.
The Orchestra, directed by Dr. Hatcher, will perform Peer Gynt, Suite No. 1, Opus 46 by Edvard Grieg, and Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The Woodwind Quintet, directed by William P. Parrish, will play Menuet by B.M. Colomer and Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Sir Edward Elgar, arranged by David Bussick.
