Hornet Men's Tennis Knocks Off Southern Virginia 7-2

LC Box Score vs. SVU

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's team upped its winning streak to four matches on Friday, as the Hornets flew by Southern Virginia University 7-2 in non-conference action from the LC Courts.

Kyler Paluga upped his winning streak to nine Friday with two wins.                The winning streak of four matches the longest since the 2003, when the Hornets put together win streaks of four and five matches throughout the season. Leading the way for LC lately has been the sizzling play of Robert Martin (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst) and senior Kyler Paluga (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette).

Martin, who has now won his last six singles matches and five doubles matches, cruised with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Paluga has won his last nine times out combined, as he won at No. 2 singles in straight sets three and one, after taking his No. 2 doubles match 8-1.

Brandon Brown (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) won his third singles match in his last four times out, winning at No. 1 singles 6-1 and 6-1, while pairing with Paluga for a doubles win. Junior Kevin McCloskey (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) was a double winner at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles, while Brian Nelson (Charlotte, NC/Home Schooled) and Kristian Richardson (Trenton, NJ/The Hun School of Princeton) took their No. 1 doubles match 8-1.

Waseem Rana (Charlotte Court House, VA/Randolph Henry) and Jonathan Jordan (Alexandria, VA/GW Community School) battled at No. 5 and No 6 singles, respectively, but fell for SVU's two wins.

Lynchburg (5-10) will travel to Emory & Henry College for a league match at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
