Lynchburg Baseball Gets 10-3 Road Win Over Guilford College

LC Box Score vs. Guilford

GREENSBORO, NC - The Lynchburg College baseball team pounded out 17 hits and got eight strong innings out of starter Bryan Breedlove (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) as it defeated Guilford College 10-3 Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from McBane Field.

The Hornets (24-11/13-3 ODAC) scored in each of the first three innings, highlighted by a two-run first.  In the first frame, Lynchburg got a pair of runs thanks to a double steal and a RBI single from junior David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest)

Lynchburg would go on to score the next six runs, going up 10-0 at one point going into the eighth inning to pull away.  Breedlove surrendered two earned runs and four hits over eight innings of work, with one of his only mistakes coming on a three-run homer by GC's Alex Starbuck.

The Hornet attack was paced by Gaines, Jr., who finished three-for-six with a run and RBI. Sophomore Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) posted three hits in six at-bats, while Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Heresford) was three-for-four with two runs and a run knocked in.

Junior Ryan Litz (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) was two-for-four with two runs scored and a double, and Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River) added two hits, three runs batted in and a run.  Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) and Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) also both posted a pair of hits for LC, who swept the season series with the Quakers.

Starbuck was the lone bright spot offensively for Guilford, as he was two-for-three with three RBI and a run.

Lynchburg finishes its regular season this Saturday as it travels to Bridgewater College for an ODAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.  The Hornets are currently a two games up and one game ahead in the loss column as Lynchburg looks for its second consecutive regular season conference title.
