Lynchburg Men's Tennis Knocks Off Guilford College 5-4 in ODAC Thriller
GREENSBORO, NC - The Lynchburg College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches Tuesday afternoon, as it defeated Guilford College 5-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The win streak of three is the longest for a Hornets' squad since 2003, when LC went 9-3 and had win streaks of five and four matches throughout the season. Lynchburg has defeated both Virginia Wesleyan College and Ferrum College as well in the streak.
LC (4-10/3-4 ODAC) got the deciding win out of senior captain Kyler Paluga (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette). With the match score knotted at four, Paluga won his singles match three and two to give the Hornets the win. Paluga also netted a win at No. 2 doubles, pairing with Brandon Brown (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) for an 8-3 victory.
Sophomore Robert Martin (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst) enjoyed a big day, as he captured his No. 6 singles match four and two. He teamed with senior Daniel Civis (Forest, VA/Holy Cross) as well to take their No. 3 doubles match 8-4. Martin has won his last four singles matches, not dropping a set over that span.
No. 3 singles also went the way of the Hornets, as Nicholas Carroll (Atlanta, GA/Holy Innocents) captured the win with scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 10-2 in the super-tiebreaker. This win marked the first time in three seasons that LC has knocked off Guilford, dating back to March of 2006.
Lynchburg will try to extend its winning streak again tomorrow as the squad heads to Bridgewater College for more conference action.
