Quaker Women's Tennis Defeats LC Ladies 5-2

GREENSBORO, NC - The Guilford College women's tennis team defeated Lynchburg College Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play by a score of 5-2, as the match was shortened to time restraints and moved inside due to wet conditions on campus.

Krysten Bishop won at No. 3 singles Tuesday               Lynchburg (2-11/1-6 ODAC) dropped all three doubles matches, though Gretel Coleman (Bedford, NY/Harvey School) and Sarah Fleming (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) played a thriller in No. 3 doubles. After going up 8-7, Guilford (4-6/3-4 ODAC) responded with the tying game, and won the tie-breaker 7-5.

The Hornets tried to rally in singles competition, thanks to the efforts of Jessie Moore (Salem, VA/Glenvar) and Krysten Bishop (Big Rapids, MI/Big Rapids). Moore won at No. 2 singles, splitting the first two sets 6-3 and 4-6 before taking the super-tiebreaker 10-5. Bishop also won in dramatic fashion at No. 3 singles, winning the super-tiebreaker 11-8 after falling in set one, 4-6 and winning the second set 6-1.

No. 1 singles player Elizabeth Eckert (Annandale, VA/Annandale) battled, but fell in straight sets three and three. The final two matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles were defaulted after GC had clinched the match, due to restraints at the indoor facility.

The Hornets will travel to Bridgewater College tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for more league play.
