Tara Campbell Hits Three-Run Home Runs in Each Game

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College softball team swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against visiting Greensboro College, 10-2 in six innings and 8-0 in five innings.

Senior Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County) got the Hornets on the board early in the opener with a three-run home run and LC would score five more times in the first inning and cruise to victory. Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) was 2-2 with a double and two RBI, and Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) also had two hits and two RBI. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) scored three times and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/South Regional) drew three walks and crossed the plate twice. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) worked all six innings for the win on the rubber, scattering seven hits while allowing one earned run. Brittany Teer was 3-3 for the Pride (19-14).

The nightcap was scoreless through two and a half innings, until LC plated six runs in the third and two in the fourth. With one run already in and two runners on with one out, Campbell drilled her second three-run blast of the day. Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) and James followed Campbell with dingers to give LC back-to-back-to-back home runs and a 6-0 lead. A Duguay solo homer and a Campbell RBI single in the fourth ended the scoring. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) upped her record to 16-1 on the season with the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and no walks in her four innings.

The Hornets (28-5) host Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) neighbor Sweet Briar College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
