Hornets Garner Four Old Dominion Athletic Conference Awards Monday

SALEM, VA - For the second consecutive week, four Lynchburg College student-athletes garnered Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week honors, as released by the league office Monday.

The Lynchburg softball team continued its superb play going 6-0 on the week, including doubleheader sweeps over Randolph-Macon College, No. 8 Christopher Newport University and perennial power Emory University.

Lynchburg pitcher/designated hitter Katie Bruce (Lenexa, VA/Lafayette) was named the Player of the Week, while Hornet hurler Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington-Lee) took home the Pitcher of the Week award. Bruce hit .333 for the week, connecting on three homers while driving in 11 runs while scoring six times. Miles went 3-0 on the week, posting a 0.45 ERA with 17 strikeouts allowing one earned run.

Lynchburg baseball left fielder Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) lifted the Hornets to a 4-1 record, as he was named ODAC Player of the Week. Taylor batted .471 on the week, scoring six times to go with three stolen bases. Taylor had three hits and two swiped bags against Hampden-Sydney College, while posting two hits against Averett University and Roanoke College.

Freshman pole vaulter James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) provisionally qualified for his second event in this spring's national meet on Saturday, as the newcomer posted a height of 15 feet, five inches in the pole vault in earning ODAC Athlete of the Week.

He also qualified in the decathlon last weekend at the Liberty College Invite. His height of 15 feet, 5 inches is currently fourth on the Lynchburg outdoor record books. His height of 15'5" is also the eighth best in the country this season.
