Lynchburg College Theatre will present Eurydice, an adaptation of the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, April 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Dillard Fine Arts Center Theatre.
Adapted by American playwright Sara Ruhl, the play is a re-imagining of the myth as a modern tale of loss and love told from Eurydice's point of view. With contemporary characters and unique visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.
Appearing in the cast are Ashley Byrne, playing the role of Eurydice; Derek Arey, Orpheus; Derek Cooper, Eurydice's father; Andrew Baldwin, Nasty Interesting Man/child; Dale Stanley, Big Stone; Thomas Russell, Loud Stone; Melissa Porcaro, Little Stone.
Playwright Sara Ruhl has gained widespread recognition for her work. Her play, The Clean House, a romantic comedy, won the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 seniors (60+) and $5 students. The Lynchburg College Box Office (434/544-8380) opens April 13. Box office hours are 1-5 p.m. weekdays and 30 minutes before show time on weekends.
