LYNCHBURG, VA - The 22nd ranked Lynchburg College softball team swept visiting Emory University 2-1 and 5-0 in non-conference action from Aubrey R. Moon, Jr. Field.
The first game proved to be a pitchers' duel. LC in the bottom of the first inning as two singles and a wild pitch put Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) and Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) on second and third base with no outs. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) then reached base on a fielder's choice that sent Allsop across home plate to give the Hornets a 1-0 edge. Bruce delivered again in the third inning with a solo homer to deep center field. Shanon Andersen led the way for the Eagles, pitching six innings, striking out 12 Hornets, and allowing just four hits.
