LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College baseball team split a home Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with the Maroons of Roanoke College Saturday, falling in game one 2-1 before turning around to knock off RC 11-1 in the nightcap.

In game one, the story was the brilliant pitching of Roanoke's John Terlesky. Terlesky allowed only one hit, inducing 15 ground ball outs in the seven inning game. Roanoke got all the runs it would need in the first inning, as Alan Moore and Patrick Collins each posted RBI singles in the frame.

LC scratched across its only run of the contest in the bottom half of the fourth, as Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) drove in David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) who had earlier singled, which was LC's lone hit of the ballgame.

Jonathan Nichols posted seven shutout innings Saturday for Senior Day.                In the nightcap, Lynchburg (23-11/12-3 ODAC) jumped out on the Maroons early, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the first to take control. Hornet starter Jonathan Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) sparkled all game, allowing no runs on six hits, striking out four batters.

Junior catcher Ryan Litz (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest)  was two-for-three with a run and RBI, while Watkins finished two-for-four with three knocked in and two runs in the nightcap. Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was two-for-two with two driven in, while senior Jeff Lincoln (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) singled in both of his plate appearances.

Graham Thacker paced the Maroons (9-17/4-10 ODAC) in game one, posting three hits, while Chris Boylan has a pair of hits in the second contest of the afternoon.

The Hornets will travel to Greensboro, NC this Wednesday afternoon for a ODAC battle with Guilford College at 3 p.m.
