Lynchburg Baseball Topples Guilford College 6-2 Thursday

LC Box Score vs. Guilford

LYNCHBURG, VA - Lynchburg starter Bryan Breedlove (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) tossed seven and a third strong innings as the Hornets of Lynchburg College knocked off the Guilford College baseball team 6-2 Thursday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Fox Field.

Breedlove evened his season mark at 2-2 as he allowed only two earned runs against the nation's 15th best offense. He also scattered seven hits while fanning seven Quaker batters.

The Hornets (22-10/11-2 ODAC) opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom half of the second, as Ryan Litz (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) and Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) each had RBI singles to center field for LC. The Quakers responded with a single score in the top of the fourth, thanks to a Kyle Wooden RBI single to left.

Chris Colquhoun had a RBI double in Thursday's win over GC.                Lynchburg would take control of the game in the bottom of the sixth, as it posted a three-spot to chase Guilford starter Corey Landis. Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) had an RBI double in the frame, eventually scoring on a RBI single from  Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River).

In the top of the eighth, Guilford (17-13-1/6-5 ODAC) threatened with runners on first and second, but Lynchburg reliever Ryan McDonough (Centereach, NY/Our Savior) induced a six-four-three double play ball to get out of the jam. McDonough earned his first save of the season, allowing two hits and no runs over one and two-thirds innings.

Junior outfielders Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) each posted two hits on the afternoon, as Gaines, Jr. knocked in two and Grant scored twice. Litz finished with two hits, a RBI and a run, while Colquhoun had two runs and a RBI on the afternoon.

Guilford was paced by the two knocks from Wooden, who led the ODAC in hitting coming into today's game. Terrence Penn returned to his hometown to post a one-for-three day with a run batted in.

Lynchburg will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday as the Maroons of Roanoke College come to Fox Field for  a league twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
