Lindsay Gengras Nets Game Winner in Double Overtime

GREENSBORO, NC - Sophomore midfielder Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) netted the game-winner in double overtime as the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team outlasted Guilford College 17-16 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) slugfest Wednesday evening.

The Hornets led 8-6 at intermission and held a 14-12 lead with four minutes left after a tally from Emily McMillan (Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Friends). But the Quakers' Summer Frazier scored back-to-back goals to force overtime.

Patty Sheahan (Lutherville, MD/St. Timothy's) scored in the first overtime period, but Frazier quickly answered to knot the score at 15. Katie Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) tallied an unassisted goal with 1:39 left on the clock, but Carrie Ernst scored with just 25 seconds left in the first overtime to force a second, sudden-death overtime session. Gengras scored from McMillan with 1:36 left in the second overtime period to finally end the contest.

Deana Welsch (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored five times, four in the first half, and McMillan had four goals and an assist. Sheahan found the back of the net three times and Morgan Logue (Barrington, IL/Barrington) and Gengras each scored twice.

Frazier had four goals and one assist for Guilford (5-9/2-4 ODAC). Ernst added four scores and Shelly Nogueira had three goals and two assists. LC out-shot GC 46-32.

Lynchburg (6-6/1-3 ODAC) hosts Sweet Briar College Saturday at 6 p.m. in another conference game.
