Brittany AllsopLYNCHBURG, VA - The 22nd ranked Lynchburg College softball team upset the eighth ranked Captains of Christopher Newport 8-2 in game one and 11-5 in game two.

LC got off to a quick start in game one as Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun Co.) grounded out to score Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) and Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) hit a two-run homerun to plate Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View). The Captains answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth, but LC came back with a four-run fifth inning off five hits. LC got its final run in the sixth inning as Allsop registered her first home-run of the season. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while striking out six.

The second game proved to be a slugfest as the two teams combined for 20 hits and four homeruns.  The Hornets erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second. Allsop got the offensive show started with a grand slam to center field and Campbell sent a pitch over the left field fence for a two-run bomb. CNU (27-5) made a fierce comeback in the fourth inning, plating five runs with the bit hit being delivered by Emily Garcia who hit a two-run jack. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) contributed to her own cause in the circle in the bottom of the fourth, driving a pitch off the scoreboard to score two runs and LC tacked on two more runs to end the inning. Bruce pitched a complete game and earned her 14th win on the season.

Lynchburg (24-5) returns to the field on Saturday as they host Emory University at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
