Lynchburg Baseball Tames Cougars With 8-5 Win Wednesday

LC Box Score vs. Averett

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College baseball team plated three runs in the seventh inning to break a five-all game, propelling itself an 8-5 non-conference victory over Averett University Wednesday from Fox Field.

Lynchburg (21-10) scored four runs in the first frame for the second straight afternoon, as LC plated the runs thanks to five base hits and one error. After LC made the score 5-1 in the third frame, Averett (13-19-1) posted a trio of runs in the fifth inning and a single tally in the sixth to tie the game at five.

The Hornets responded with the final three runs of the contest, as Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Heresford) had a RBI single and junior Ryan Litz (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) laced a two-run, two out double to cap the afternoon's scoring.

Kyle Bradley upped his hitting streak to nine games Wednesday.                Lynchburg was paced by Watkins, who finished two-for-four with three runs batted in and a run scored. Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was two-for-four with three runs and a stolen base, while Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) had a pair of hits as he upped his hitting streak to nine games.

Sophomore shortstop Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) scored once to go with a pair of basehits, also making all nine plays in the field that came his way. Hornet starter Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty) went five innings, surrendering four earned runs and seven hits while striking out six Averett hitters.

Sophomore Justin Ferrell (Red Oak, VA/Randolph-Henry) got the win for LC, going three innings of relief allowing three hits and one unearned run, and Robbie Garrett (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) earned his third save with a scoreless ninth.

The Cougars were paced by Michael Moore, who finished three-for-three with two runs. Jake Loye was two-for-five with a double, and Eric Sibrizzi also had a pair of hits for AU.

Lynchburg finishes its three-game homestand tomorrow afternoon as the Quakers of Guilford College come to Fox Field for a league game at 3 p.m.
