Joe Devlin Goes The Distance In LC Baseball 11-2 Win Over Hampden-Sydney

LC Box Score vs. H-SC

LYNCHBURG, VA - Senior right hander Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) upped his record to 5-2 on the season with a complete game, as he aided the Lynchburg College baseball team to an 11-2 win over Hampden-Sydney College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Tuesday from Fox Field.

Devlin went the distance allowing two earned runs and eight hits while fanning four Tiger batters. After allowing two runs in the second inning, he settled down and would not allow another runner to score.

Lynchburg (20-10/10-2 ODAC) posted four runs in the first inning, as the Hornets got RBI singles from David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest), Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River) and Ryan Litz (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest). LC also scored four more to put the game away in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle).

Jeff Taylor had three hits, two runs and two stolen bases Tuesday.                Litz finished three-for-three on the afternoon for the Hornets, driving in two while scoring once. Junior outfielder Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was three-for-five with two runs and two stolen bases, as Haugh, Painter and Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) each collected two hits apiece.

Erik Herrman was two-for-four to lead the Tigers, while Hall Toledano had a RBI groundout in the second inning. H-SC starter Ryan Daniel went four innings, surrendering three earned runs and eight hits.

Lynchburg will dive back into non-conference play tomorrow afternoon, as the Cougars of Averett University come to Fox Field for a 3 p.m. contest.
