Freshman rider Kelly Gerland will advance to the National Championship in Nashville, Tenn., April 23-26 after being named the reserve champion in intermediate fences at the Intercollegiate Zone Finals, a competition for the top nine riders in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia colleges.

Gerland also finished ninth in novice flat at the Zone Finals, held at the University of Mary Washington. Two other members of Lynchburg College's equestrian team competed at the meet. Senior Sarah Ridgeway earned seventh place in advanced walk/trot/canter, and Senior Caitlin Flathers took seventh in novice fences.

The Hornets travel to Lexington, Va. on Friday, April 10 to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships at Washington and Lee University.
