Kelly Gerland Qualifies for Nationals

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Three members of Lynchburg College's equestrian team competed this weekend at the Intercollegiate Zone Finals at Mary Washington. The event is a competition for the top nine riders in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia colleges.

Freshman Kelly Gerland (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was named the reserve champion in intermediate fences and also finished ninth in novice flat. Senior Sarah Ridgeway (Locust Dale, VA/Orange County) earned seventh place in advanced walk/trot/canter, and Caitlin Flathers (Rixeyville, VA/Homeschool) took seventh in novice fences.

As a result of her achievement in intermediate fences, Gerland will advance to Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee. The competition will be taking place from April 23-26 and will be hosted by Mountain State University.

The Hornets travel to Lexington, VA on Friday, April 10 to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships at Washington and Lee.
