Guilford Snaps LC Softball 15-Game Winning Streak With a Split on Sunday

GREENSBORO, NC - The Lynchburg College softball team extended their winning streak to 15 with a 8-3 defeat of Guilford College, but the Quakers bounced back to snap the streak with a walk-off single to win 5-4.

Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) led the Hornets in game one, going 3-4 with one homerun, two RBI and one run, Ashley Hohenberger (Wake Forest, NC/Longwood) knocked in two runs, and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) was 2-for-four with one run batted in.  Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) won her eighth game of the season, tossing a complete game, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out four.

The second-game ended in dramatic fashion. The Hornets and Quakers entered the seventh inning tied 4-4. Jessica Burcham of Guilford got a 1-2-3 inning  in the top of the seventh, allowing her teammates the chance to snap the 15-game LC winning streak in walk-off fashion. Guilford led off the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single and an outfield single put runners on first and second with no outs. The third batter was walked to load the bases. Kelly Hale stepped up to the plate and registered a walk-off single to score Ami Hutcherson.

Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) finished 2-for-4 in game two and Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) belted her team-leading sixth homerun to drive in two Hornets.

Lynchburg (20-5/11-1) looks to rebound on Tuesday as they welcome the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College to Aubrey R. Moon, Jr. Field at 3 p.m.
