Lynchburg Men Have Busy Two Days at Duke Invitational, Liberty Invite

                DURHAM, NC and LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's outdoor track and field squad competed at both the Duke Invitational and the Liberty Collegiate Invitational over the past two days, posting record breaking performances at both meets. 

                Friday night at Duke, junior distance star Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) posted a new Lynchburg 5,000 meter outdoor record, running the distance in a NCAA qualifying time of 14:27.58. Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) also posted a fine time of 15:17.95 in same event. 

                Saturday afternoon proved to be a great day for LC at the Liberty meet, as many performers booked excellent efforts. Thomas Clark (Alexandria, VA/TC Williams) posted a new personal high of 15 feet, 1 inch in the pole vault. Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) bested his previous high jump mark by more than eight inches, jumping a height of six feet, three and a half inches. 

                In the 400 meters, LC was led by Evan Ellison (Atlanta, GA/McCallie) who ran a 48.98, followed closely by Graves and his time of 49.19. Rashard Adams (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) also ran the 400 meters, finishing with times of 49.77 and 49.93, respectively. 

                The throwers for LC also had a fine day, as Dan Reid (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenhom) tossed the discus 145 feet and the hammer 146 feet. John Michael Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) upped his spot on the LC record page, jumping up to fourth with a toss of 149 feet, 1 inch in the hammer throw. 

                  Kavonte Warner (Scottsville, VA/Buckingham Co.) ran the 100 meter high hurdles in 15.90, while the 4x100 meter relay squad finished third with a time of 42.17. Freshman James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) qualified nationally for the decathlon with a total score of 6,299 points, finishing sixth.

                  LC hosts the LC Classic on Shellenberger Field next Saturday.
