"One Size Fits All: Fostering a Healthy Body Image in Kids" is the subject of a free workshop for parents by Dr. Mandy L. Perryman, assistant professor of counseling, from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, in Hopwood Hall, Room 14.

Kids come in all shapes and sizes. Developing a healthy body image is important for each and every one. How can parents and other adults help?

"I believe our society puts too much pressure on young people to attain an ideal/impossible body size," Perryman said. "These unrealistic demands can take an emotional and physical toll on kids, causing low self-esteem, extreme dieting, binge eating, and even eating disorders."

How can parents help their children challenge media's depiction of beauty? How can they encourage self-acceptance and empower children to value their bodies? This presentation, sponsored by the Lynchburg College Center for Family Studies, will help parents find out.
